Chemical Peels

Chemical peels refer to a cosmetic method in which a chemical solution is put on the skin. It removes only the outermost layer which in turn helps your skin to regenerate and become healthier. As a result, you get skin that is softer and has a better appearance with fewer noticeable flaws.

How Chemical Peels Work

A chemical caused by the peel is responsible for small injuries on the skin’s surface. The peeling helps bring out revitalised skin underneath. The strength and setting of the specific product guide how deep the peel and level of skin-shedding will be.

Benefits of Chemical Peels

Rejuvenation: Peels work to reduce wrinkles, fine lines and sunspots which are common as you age.

Improved Texture: They make the skin feel finer and appear much smoother and brighter.

Even Skin Tone: Chemical peels used for acne scars, dark spots or pigmentation make the tone of the skin more even and balanced.

Acne Management: Acne treatment includes removing dirt from the pores and balancing your skin’s oil level.

Collagen Production: Boosting collagen, some peels have the ability to raise collagen in the skin which firms and tightens the skin.

Minimized Pores: Some chemical peels can help to minimise pore size for an improved appearance.

Types of Chemical Peels

Different chemical peels are designed to address various skin concerns and specific types of skin.

With Superficial Peels, the main active ingredients are AHP or BHA which work only on the outer skin layer. Because they are good for light exfoliation, lunchtime peels are famous for requiring very little recovery time.

They work on the outer and middle layers of the skin to fix moderate issues like acne. Many procedures use TCA which is also known as trichloroacetic acid. Recovery from a mid-depth peel usually lasts longer than a superficial peel does.

With deep peels, a substance called phenol permits exfoliation of the innermost skin layers. They should only be given in severe cases, as they give major improvements. Nevertheless, they require more time to heal and can have more chance of side effects.

What to Expect During a Chemical Peel

Most of the time, this is how treatment unfolds:

All dirt and impurities will be cleared from your skin.

A special solution is put on the affected area.

You could notice a mild feeling of burning or tingling, but it will disappear after some minutes.

After that, a neutralising agent is applied to finish the process.

After the treatment, some redness, swelling and skin peeling is expected in the days after.
